Born in 1886 in Mirecourt, France, Rene Jacquemin was a pupil of Audinot and worked for Mougenot-Jacquet-Gand and Caressa in Paris. After establishing an independent workshop in Mirecourt in 1919, Jacquemin was awarded the gold medal for violin making in 1926.

This beautiful full size (4/4) French violin is a fine example of the Mirecourt school of violin making. Crafted with a tight and evenly grained Spruce top plate, the violin features an exquisitely tight and even Flame Maple backplate with a Flame Maple neck and scroll. The violin is finished with a relatively even orange-brown varnish with a gold undertone. Fit with Rosewood pegs, tailpiece, and chin rest, the sound projection is bright, clear, and open. A classic example of French artistry from the early 20^th century of violin making.
